Alongside the core projects sit a complementary set of projects to help meet the Canterbury’s Tales of England objectives.

Canterbury pass

Launching a One Ticket pass experience for visitors, similar to the popular York Pass, encouraging visitors to explore Canterbury’s Tales of England and our partner attractions in the city, Whitstable, Herne Bay and the wider area.

VISIT CANTERBURY

Transformation of the Visit Canterbury DMO to fully encompass Canterbury’s Tales of England and its complimentary objectives to promote Canterbury as a destination for visitors, residents and investment, in partnership with the district’s destination partners.

shared identity & UNIFIED DESIGN STRATEGY

Providing the city with a shared brand identity, and resources that attractions and partners can engage with in telling their own Canterbury’s Tales of England - promoting Canterbury as a destination with a strong shared story and encouraging a unified design style for the city’s public spaces to create a consistent visitor experience.

1095 TREES & GREEN ROOFS

Celebrating the launch of Canterbury’s Tales of England with 1095 trees planted around the district to symbolise the 1095 years since the Kingdom of England was founded, a lasting legacy for future generations. Green roofs will be introduced at project sites wherever possible.

A Tree Masterplan will be created to identify the sites and the appropriate species for each location - businesses and residents will be encouraged to sponsor a tree which they can help plant and care for.

CIVIC PRIDE APP & CIVIC WARDENS

An app to bring together the army of volunteers that will be needed to support the Canterbury’s Tales of England projects, with four core functions; facilitating volunteers with scheduling, reporting tools for things like graffiti, maintenance and litter, connecting groups together in the sharing of news and events, and integration with Canterbury City Council CANENCO systems.

New Civic Wardens will support the army of volunteers and act as coordinators for reporting, actioning and undertaking repairs and maintenance across the heritage core.

CIVIC PRIDE CENTRE & HERITAGE SKILLS WORKSHOP

A new Civic Pride Centre and heritage skills workshop will provide a home for first class volunteer facilities (acting as a base for volunteer equipment including gardening and litter picking) and a heritage design centre encouraging best practice in shopfront design and nurturing heritage skills.

LANDING POINTS

Enhancing the city approaches (brown welcome signage, key roadside verges, roundabouts) and landing points (car parks, stations, and coach parks) with new hard and soft landscaping, strong brand identity and wayfinding.

WIDER DISTRICT

Using this opportunity to help Whitstable, Herne Bay and the villages tell their Tales of England through complementary interpretation, and inclusion of their attractions in the Canterbury Pass and itineraries.
